Luzon Peacock Swallowtail – A Stunning Butterfly Found in the Philippines

Without any doubt, many people around the globe are fascinated with the idea of finding and collecting different types of butterfly species.  Regardless of their point of origin, they want to discover the interesting lives of these types of insects as well as their remarkable enthralling metamorphosis in life.

Of course, such idea becomes meaningful when the exploration involves children and youngsters who show interest to learning about these amazing creatures on earth.

Live butterflies are not only for classroom purposes because there are folks who utilize them for important events and thorough studies about science. In most cases, there are participating students who spend time to discover how these beautiful creatures live and survive in this world. Again, their intriguing metamorphosis is what makes them very interesting to explore their progression.

With the thousands of butterfly species in the different parts of the world, one of the most amazing creatures will be the Luzon Peacock Swallowtail (Papilio Chikae). According to the history of this huge and colorful butterfly, they discovered their species only in the northern part of Luzon, Philippines. There are almost 200 species (Lepidoptera) of the Swallowtails, but this particular specie is among the beautiful and stunning creatures to discover.

From the published information through, scientists discovered the Luzon Peacock Swallowtail almost four decades ago and considered a rare kind of butterfly.  However, it is not easy to photograph because it is hardly possible to discover one in the place.

Because this kind of insect is becoming extinct these days, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and European Space Agency (ESA) already listed it as one of the most endangered insects in this planet. One of the reasons why their species are decreasing in numbers is due to continuing illegal trade of butterflies.

Although there are existing rules and enforcements to prevent those abusive human beings from capturing the butterflies, these people are not stopping in their wrongdoings when they visit the area. In most cases, even the locals are part of the trade because they collect these beautiful and colorful insects to sell them to different buyers. This is the reason why the government of the Philippines is having a tough time dealing with the illegal trades.

Based on the description of the Luzon Peacock Swallowtail, their wings feature red, black and turquoise colors, while their forewings are black and with pale blue veins. The entire body features black color with green (spotted) scales. Surely, this makes this type of creature an interesting butterfly to discover.

As detailed on the studies about the lifestyle of this kind of butterfly, they love staying on higher slopes and peaks, specifically in areas where enormous flowers exist. We all know that flowers are part of the habitats of almost all types of butterflies in the world.

Like any other species of butterfly, the Luzon Peacock Swallowtail eat flowers, leaves and lay eggs under leaves of trees.

If we talk about the different activities made by humans wherein they use live butterflies, these include designing pavilions for special occasions, creating a butterfly garden and for exploration in schools. All of these activities somehow affect the normal habitats of these creatures and so they continue to become extinct.

Without a doubt, one can discover innumerable species of butterfly in the world and every species has their own distinction. Of course, there are always those that stand out to the others because of their unique characteristic, origin and appearance.

Just like the Luzon Peacock Swallowtail, they consider this type of butterfly as one of the most beautiful creatures on each, despite its endangered situation.
